Who Am I?

My name is Tanya, and I currently reside in Vancouver, Canada.

I am a multimedia artist who is inspired by the natural world. I love working with my hands and incorporating natural materials into my art. I am always experimenting with new media and love combining them to create unique pieces that converge my artistic interests. This series is a culmination of my love for needlework and working with natural materials. I began cross-stitching over 10 years ago and have been refining my needlework skills ever since. I taught myself by working from patterns and later created many of my own designs. I’ve known for a long time that I want to incorporate natural elements into my art, and using the Magnolia leaves as my canvas has combined both of these interests.

I was inspired by an artist I saw on Instagram, @MagnoliaHeather, who has been using Magnolia leaves in her work since 2017. I finally gathered the courage to try using a leaf as my canvas in 2023, and haven’t looked back.
